15 Central Park West

July 20th, 2007

With 15 Central Park West, architect Robert A.M. Stern has combined the strength of Indiana Limestone with a façade of over 40% windows. In a time when limestone is deemed outmoded and too expensive as a building
material, Stern has invested in the future of the area and reinvented it as a functional and beautiful option at the same time. Residents of 15 Central Park West have as their playground one of the most popular city parks in the world. However, the types of high rollers who live here don’t have time for such casual pleasure. Denzel Washington and Jeff Gordon are two of the first to sign the dotted line. The remaining 199 condominiums have also been sold.

Reminiscent of many “two-tower” designs that are popular for the area, 15 Central Park West is composed of two distinct buildings, one 20 stories and the other 43 stories. In between is a walled-in open space, also referred
to as the courtyard. The central feature of the courtyard is the turnaround driveway, the “motor court” with motorized sliding gates. Each tower has its own lobby, with the larger, 35×45 foot offering inviting residents and visitors alike to enjoy one of two grand fireplaces and gaze at the columns of limestone and marble.

Residents of 15 Central Park West choose between 1-4 bedroom homes, each with high ceilings and a light, airy design that contribute to the contemporary, regal feel. The average size of a condominium is 3000 square feet, although the duplexes and full-floor penthouses span nearly twice that in square footage. Each condo has a custom-designed kitchen and bathrooms with beautiful walk-in showers and separate tubs. While the condominiums are a drawing point to the building, the amenities are the deal-sealers. The complex offers its residents a private in-house chef, a screening room, private library with fireplace, and an option to rent one of 30
private climate controlled wine rooms, each with an octagonal tasting table that seats up to eight connoisseurs. Residents may purchase one of many guest quarters for use by domestic help or guests. And for the health-oriented, residents have access to the 14,000 square foot fitness center and 75-foot lap pool with a shimmering “sky” light. Actually, it isn’t air that residents see when they look through the glass ceiling above them, but the water shimmering from the courtyard pool above.
